Emborcação Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) began its construction in 1977. It started its operation in 1982, with 02 generating units of 298 MW unit power. Since 1983, 02 more generating units of the same power were installed. Built in the city of Araguari, Minas Gerais, on Paranaíba River, it delivers 1,192 MW of installed capacity available in its 4 generating units.
Composed by earth dams, rockfill with clay core and concrete, Emborcação HPP dam extends for 1,502 m of crest length and 158 m of maximum height. Its reservoir has about 476.59 km² of flooded area and a maximum storage capacity of 17,724.72 hm³.
