Salto Passo Velho (Small Hydroelectric Plant), currently owned by Horizontes Energia S.A., was built by Companhia Ferro Ligas S.A. between 1959 and 1960. It consists of 2 generating units, with a nominal power of 1.80 MW. Unit 1, with power of 1.1 MW, started its commercial operation on 12/24/1960, and unit 2, with power of 0.7 MW, started its commercial operation on 12/24/1965.
The structure of the dam consists of mortar stone (stone masonry) with blocks of dense basalt, of excellent geological quality, and various dimensions (on average 30 x 32 x 45 cm).
The dam reaches a height of 5 m, measured from the foundation to the crest of the dam. The reservoir holds 0.42 hm³ in volume and a flooded area of 0.18 km².
