Cemig\u00b4s Commitment to Biodiversity<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Cemig dedicates special attention to the conservation of the biodiversity of the environments where it operates, since water and biodiversity are closely related. There is a legal commitment to recover, protect and conserve the forests, rivers and fauna surrounding the ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of human activities on ecosystems has been leading to a decline in biological diversity. Thus, the Energy Company of Minas Gerais (Companhia Energ\u00e9tica de Minas Gerais) \u2013 Cemig, aware of the impacts caused by its activities on biodiversity and acknowledging the need to define strategic guidelines for its preservation, has adopted a specific policy (Biodiversity Policy) which was built with the participation of various segments of society involved with the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cemig seeks to minimize the impact of its activities on biodiversity, considering the hierarchy of impact mitigation (prevent, mitigate, rehabilitate\/restore, compensate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are working to achieve, in the long run, a neutral net impact on biodiversity, respecting the principle of no net loss, thus contributing to the United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Protection of Life on Land).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have developed programs and studies aimed at preventing and controlling the impacts of invasive non-native species and implementing strategies to offset deforestation, aiming to achieve no net deforestation, resulting from its business expansion activities in the generation and distribution of electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We reinforce the commitment to purchase products from suppliers that promote the conservation of natural ecosystems, monitoring suppliers in their supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We develop initiatives and carry out research, technological development and innovation projects, contributing to improve the environmental performance of the activities related to the supply of electricity, aiming at the biodiversity conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
