Cemig, a group of 38 companies and 7 consortiums, is one of the most solid and important groups in the Brazilian electrical sector.
Cemig Distribuição S.A. is the largest electric energy utility in Brazil with approximately 6.2 million consumers in 774 municipalities in the State of Minas Gerais, for a total of over 18 million peopled serviced. Cemig Geração e Transmissão S.A. is of strategic importance to the country, as it is responsible for the operation of 57 plants producing 6,692 megawatts of electricity.
Cemig is recognized not only for its technical competence, but also for its sustainable development practices. In 2006, the Company was listed for the seventh consecutive time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which includes companies from around the globe.
Cemig’s strategic expansion plan maps out its growth through operations in other states and abroad. Cemig owns 20% of the capital in Light, an energy distributor that operates in the city of Rio de Janeiro and in other cities in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It also recently acquired a stake in Transmissoras Brasileiras de Eletricidade, which operates transmission lines in the Northern and Southern regions of the country.
In Chile, Cemig is building and will operate a transmission line through a consortium formed with Alusa.
