Sara Foundation in Montes Claros
The Sara Foundation is a foundation intended to attend children and adolescents with cancer and hematological disorders who are being treated in the city of Montes Claros. This philanthropic institution is not allied with any sect or political organization or institution and has no purpose other than that of supporting and assisting needy youth. The entity was founded by Marlene and Alvaro, whose 4-year-old girl Sara died of leukemia in November, 1997. Her parents undertook a mission to pass on all the knowledge acquired during their daughter’s treatment in an effort to help sooth some of the suffering poor families undergo during treatment by giving them support. At the entity, children are afforded accommodation and meals; social assistance is offered throughout the different phases of treatment, as well as occupational therapy with educational, cultural and leisure activities, both for the children/adolescents and their companions; support is given for the purchase of medicines, exams, dental treatment and transportation through donations coming from both private and public institutions, along with the donation of staple food subsistence packages, among other forms of assistance.
