to form partnerships with private businesses in an effort
to foster new investments in the generation of electric
energy.
Partnerships
The Igarapava Plant was the first hydroelectric power station to be built under this new model. A milestone of the Brazilian electric power sector, Cemig established a new segment in the engineering market with Igarapava - the management of hydroelectric power plants.

Following the success of Igarapava, Cemig built four more hydroelectric plants as a member of various consortiums. They are: Porto Estrela, in partnership with Companhia Vale do Rio Doce – CVRD and Coteminas; Queimado, in partnership with Compania Energética de Brasília – CEB; Funil and Aimorés, in partnership with CVRD.
Cemig is currently constructing, in partnership with CVRD, the Companhia Agrícola Paineiras and the Companhia Mineira de Metais, the Capim Branco I and Capim Branco II hydroelectric plants on the Araguari river in the Triângulo Mineira region.
In addition to these consortium projects Cemig is also in the final stages of construction of the Irapé Plant in the Jequitinhonha
Valley.
