Conservation
unit - Jacob's Reserve
A "Field Day" was held within the confines of the Reserve
on the 22nd of June 1996, where bordering rural property owners and
other neighbors were present. The purposes of the encounter were to
: present the Unit to those invited, to improve relations, to establish
a communications channel, as well as having a get together. The "Field
Day" event that was attended by over 50 people, started at 2:30
p.m. and comprised the following agenda: a CEMIG presentation, where
the legal and institutional aspects, security, maintenance, and other
Company preoccupations regarding the Reserve were explained; A presentation
by the IEF (State Forestry Institute) and the Forestry Police; a visit
to the Reserve and finally a lunch which pleased all those present was
served during the closing stages of the event.
Clearing
of the Accumulation Basin
Work has been started on the access roads plus the topographical demarcation
of the tracts of land that are to be cleared, by the Companies awarded
contracts through the Bid Tender held by CEMIG.
Environmental
education
The opening of the Miranda Hydroelectric Power Station Environmental
Exposition to public visits was carried out by Dr. Otavio Azeredo Furquim
Werneck, Director of DPC on the 12th of June '96. During the month the
Environmental Exposition was visited by groups of students from Uberlândia
(Messias Pedreiro State School, Teresa Valse Institute, Federal University
of Uberlândia and the Mondragon Educational Center) and from Belo Horizonte
(Federal University of Minas Gerais).
