For the eighth consecutive year Cemig has been selected by the Dow Jones Index

Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais – Cemig was listed by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index as world leader in the Utilities Supersector, which is comprised of electric energy, gas, sanitation and other public utility services all around the world.

This accomplishment also means Cemig has been present in the selective Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DSJI World) list of companies for the eighth consecutive year. Cemig has qualified for the list ever since the creation of the Index in 1999 and it is the only Latin American company to be an integral part of this international Index.

The DSJI World is composed of shares of the largest companies from several different economic sectors which are recognized for their corporate sustainability practices and are able to add value for their shareholders over the long term as they are able to manage those opportunities and risks associated with social, economic and environmental factors.

The selection process takes into account not only the companies’ financial performance, but also the quality of and the continuous improvements to the Company’s management, as they must integrate social and environmental performance as a means of achieving sustainability over the long term.

The DJSI World has become a world benchmark for investors and foreign fund administrators, who refer to the performance of the index when making their investment decisions.

Data for the selection of the companies was collected from 2,500 companies from 57 industrial sectors from all around the world, a process audited by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. The latest composition of the DJSI, for the 2007/2008 period, lists 318 companies from 23 different countries.

The DJSI World assesses companies according to a questionnaire posing a total of 102 questions in 23 sections. Also analyzed is public information made available through websites and annual reports as this reflects the companies’ performance in terms of social, economical and environmental dimensions.

Being an integral part of the DSJI World for the eighth time in a row, and now, also being listed as a World Leader, reflects the Company’s commitment to sustainable development in its undertakings and corporate governance practices. 18 Supersector leaders were listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Among the sitting side by side with Cemig companies in this exclusive list are some of the world’s largest groups, such as BMW, in Germany, from the Automobile Supersector; Holcin, from Switzerland (Construction materials); Unilever, from The Netherlands (Food and drinks); Novo Nordisk, from Denmark (Farmaceutical); Alianz, from Germany (Insurance); Statoil, from Norway (Petroleum and gas) and others. From the Americas, only two companies are among the superleaders, Cemig and the American company, Intel.
