CEMIG maintains a Research and Development - R&D Program aimed at encouraging the search for innovation through studies and projects, as well as at selecting and consolidating partnerships for their implementation.

As more than 90% of the energy produced by CEMIG comes from hydroelectric plants that use water, a resource that is sensitive to climate variations, vulnerable to the consequences of the exploitation of other natural resources such as soil and minerals and heavily impacted by human activities, the management of this resource is an issue that deserves attention.

CEMIG invests in research and technology in order to reduce risks arising from natural processes such as flooding or prolonged shortages of water, and plans actions that ensure the ample availability of quality water for all uses.
